GTA 6 Ultimate Edition: Contents, Price, and Whether It’s Worth It

When Rockstar Games opened pre-orders on June 25, 2026, it revealed just two editions of Grand Theft Auto VI: the Standard Edition ($79.99) and the Ultimate Edition ($99.99). There is no separately named “Deluxe Edition” — the premium tier is the Ultimate Edition. Both editions include the same base game — identical story, map size, and release date of November 19, 2026. The Ultimate Edition does not add story length or unlock the map faster; it adds bonus content on top.

What the Ultimate Edition adds over Standard

For the extra $20, the Ultimate Edition bundles a set of in-game extras that Rockstar says are woven through Jason and Lucia’s story — unlocked across chapters rather than dumped in at once:

• One exclusive story mission
• A car-restoration activity
• A second garage
• Cosmetic sets for both Jason and Lucia

None of this changes the core campaign or gates the main map — it is additive content and convenience, not a competitive advantage.

You can upgrade later

Rockstar sells an Ultimate Edition Upgrade separately, so Standard owners can move up to the Ultimate contents at any time. That means the $99.99 is not a now-or-never decision: buying Standard first and upgrading later reaches the same place.

Is the Ultimate Edition worth it?

A straight read of the value:

• Buy Standard ($79.99) if you mainly want the game itself. The story, the map, and every core system are all there.
• Buy Ultimate ($99.99) if you want the extra vehicles, weapons, shops, side mission, and cosmetics available as you play, and you’d rather have them from day one than buy the upgrade later.
• Because the Ultimate Edition Upgrade exists, there is no penalty to starting with Standard and deciding later.

How this compares to past Rockstar editions

Rockstar simplified its edition ladder for GTA 6. Grand Theft Auto V (2013) shipped Standard plus a Collector’s Edition; Red Dead Redemption 2 (2018) ran Standard, Special, Ultimate, and a physical Collector’s Box. GTA 6 collapses that into a clean two-tier structure — Standard and Ultimate — with an à-la-carte upgrade path rather than multiple mid-tiers.
