GTA 6 Missions: What’s Confirmed Before Launch

Rockstar Games has not released a mission list, walkthrough, or named any individual story mission for Grand Theft Auto VI ahead of launch. What is confirmed is the structural frame around the missions: two playable protagonists, Lucia Caminos and Jason Duval, sharing a single story set in the state of Leonida. Specific mission titles, counts, and objectives remain unannounced as of May 2026.

What Rockstar Has Confirmed

The mission framework so far rests on a small number of facts Rockstar has stated directly or shown in the two official trailers.

  • Two protagonists, one story. Rockstar’s product page describes Jason and Lucia as the leads of the next chapter in the Grand Theft Auto series.1
  • Bonnie-and-Clyde framing. Trailer 2 shows the pair planning, arguing, fleeing, and committing armed robberies together, indicating that core story missions involve both characters rather than only one.2
  • Leonida setting. Missions take place across the fictional state of Leonida, including Vice City, the Keys, and inland rural and swamp regions previewed in Trailer 1 and Trailer 2.32
  • Robbery as a recurring beat. Both trailers prominently feature convenience-store and roadside robberies, surveillance-camera framings, and getaways — the same gameplay loop that anchored GTA V’s mid-game.32

Beyond that, mission count, branching, optional side content, and Online integration have not been detailed.

Dual-Protagonist Mission Structure

GTA V (2013) introduced switchable protagonists with three leads, where the player could swap between Michael, Franklin and Trevor at most times and during heist setpieces. GTA 6 narrows that to two characters who are also a couple, which changes the likely shape of missions but does not, by itself, confirm any specific mechanic.

Wikipedia’s editors summarise the publicly stated premise as a partner-crime story set across Leonida, with no claim about how often or in what manner the player switches between Jason and Lucia.4 Rockstar has not stated whether character switching during a single mission returns from GTA V, whether some missions are character-locked, or whether failure routes differ per protagonist.

What Trailer 1 and Trailer 2 Show

The trailers are the only primary sources for mission-relevant footage. They show scenarios, not mission designs, but they hint at recurring activity types.

Activity shownTrailerTimestampWhat it implies
Convenience-store robbery, surveillance camera POVTrailer 1~0:47Classic GTA store-stickup setpiece, returning in some form
Strip club interior with crowds and cashTrailer 1~0:28Venue-based mission or property gameplay (unconfirmed)

Airboat through Everglades-style swampTrailer 1~0:19Boat traversal across non-urban biomes

First-person POV from a car beside police arresting suspectsTrailer 2~0:45Police-presence missions; no confirmed wanted-system change

None of these scenes have been labelled by Rockstar as a specific story mission. Treat them as confirmed in-game scenarios, not confirmed mission descriptions.

What Remains Unannounced

The following questions are commonly asked about GTA 6 missions and have no official answer as of May 2026:

  • Total number of story missions.
  • Whether missions support replay with branching outcomes (as GTA V’s Strangers & Freaks did partially).
  • Whether heist planning boards, crew hiring, or approach choices from GTA V return.
  • Whether side activities (taxi, vigilante, ambulance, property businesses) are classed as missions.
  • How GTA Online missions or a successor service tie into the single-player campaign.
  • Mission difficulty options or accessibility settings.

Rockstar has not commented publicly on any of these.1 Take-Two’s investor materials describe GTA VI in general commercial terms and do not detail mission design.5

Sources to Watch

Concrete mission information typically arrives in three waves around a Rockstar release: a feature-focused trailer or gameplay reveal in the weeks before launch, the Rockstar Games Newswire posts published alongside it, and reviewer embargo coverage in launch week. Until those drop, any mission list circulating online is either taken from the two existing trailers or fabricated. This page will be updated as Rockstar publishes verifiable mission details.
