GTA 6 PC: Release Status, Platforms, and What We Know
GTA 6 PC has not been announced. Rockstar Games confirmed only PS5 and Xbox Series X|S for launch, leaving PC players reliant on franchise history.
GTA 6 PC
Rockstar Games has not announced a PC version of Grand Theft Auto VI. The official product page lists only PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S as launch platforms, and neither Rockstar nor parent company Take-Two Interactive has set a window, price, or specification target for a Windows release. Players hoping for GTA 6 on PC are currently working from franchise precedent, not a confirmed roadmap.
Is GTA 6 confirmed for PC?
No. As of May 2026, GTA 6 is confirmed exclusively for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. The Rockstar Games product page lists those two consoles and no other platforms, and the second official trailer released on 6 May 2025 carries the same platform tag in its end card. Rockstar has not issued a Newswire post announcing a PC SKU, a pre-order page, or system specifications.
This pattern matches every major Rockstar release since 2008. The studio has consistently launched first on consoles and added PC later as a separate commercial event with upgraded visuals, expanded settings, and modding tools where applicable.
Why no PC version at launch?
Rockstar has not publicly explained the platform sequencing for GTA 6 specifically. The company’s historical reasoning, repeated across Take-Two earnings calls, centres on two ideas: a staggered release lets the studio focus engineering effort on a smaller hardware target, and a later PC launch creates a second sales cycle that can be marketed independently. Take-Two’s investor materials describe this as a deliberate “release window” strategy across its labels.
The result is that PC players are reliant on Rockstar’s track record rather than any current commitment.
Historical GTA PC release timing
Every modern Grand Theft Auto entry has reached PC after its console debut. The gap has varied from roughly seven months to a year and a half.
| Title | Original console release | PC release | Gap |
|---|---|---|---|
| GTA IV | April 2008 | December 2008 | ~8 months |
| GTA V (PS3/Xbox 360) | September 2013 | April 2015 | ~18 months |
| Red Dead Redemption 2 | October 2018 | November 2019 | ~13 months |
| GTA VI | May 2026 (PS5, Xbox Series X|S) | Not announced | — |
GTA V’s PC version is the clearest precedent because it shipped roughly 18 months after the original PS3 and Xbox 360 launch, then a second time on PC after the PS4 and Xbox One re-release. Red Dead Redemption 2 narrowed that gap to about 13 months. Neither game’s PC version was confirmed at the time of the original console launch.
If GTA 6 follows the Red Dead Redemption 2 timeline, a PC release would arrive in the second half of 2027. If it follows the GTA V cadence, late 2027 or 2028 is the most cited fan estimate. Rockstar has not endorsed any of these windows.
System requirements
Rockstar has not published system requirements for GTA 6 on PC because there is no PC version to specify. Any chart circulating on enthusiast sites is speculation, typically extrapolated from the PS5 hardware profile and Red Dead Redemption 2’s PC specs.
What is known about the technical baseline:
- The PS5 and Xbox Series X versions target the current console generation’s hardware, including SSD streaming and hardware ray tracing on the Series X and PS5.
- Trailer 2 demonstrated dense pedestrian crowds, large traffic volumes, complex water rendering, and detailed interior lighting that imply a high CPU and memory budget.
- Rockstar’s RAGE engine has historically scaled well on PC but rewards modern multi-core CPUs and 12 GB or more of VRAM at higher settings on prior releases.
Treat any specific GHz, GB, or model-number figure as unverified until Rockstar publishes an official requirements page.
Steam, Epic Games Store, and Rockstar Launcher
No storefront has listed GTA 6 for PC. There is no Steam page, no Epic Games Store page, and no Rockstar Games Launcher entry. Rockstar’s recent PC launches have appeared on the Rockstar Games Launcher first, with third-party stores added after a delay; GTA V followed that pattern, and Red Dead Redemption 2 launched on the Rockstar Launcher and Epic Games Store before reaching Steam roughly a month later. Whether GTA 6 will repeat that sequence is unconfirmed.
What about mods and Rockstar Editor?
Rockstar has not commented on modding support, the Rockstar Editor, or first-person view for a future PC release. Each of these features arrived with the PC editions of GTA V and Red Dead Redemption 2, but they are not contractual commitments for GTA 6.
Status
A GTA 6 PC version is unannounced, unspecified, and unlisted on every major storefront as of May 2026. The most defensible expectation, based on Rockstar’s last two major releases, is a launch roughly 12 to 18 months after the console debut, with an official reveal typically coming a few months before that PC release. Until Rockstar posts a Newswire announcement or Take-Two confirms a PC SKU in an earnings call, every other detail — price, requirements, storefronts, mod support — remains unverified.
